Actions Taken at the August 2022 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors
Emergency Procedures at Dog Events
The Emergency Procedures at Dog Events Policy was modified to allow a CPR certified qualified healthcare professional (QHP) as an option for fulfilling the policy requirements. An example of a QHP is a physician, physician assistant, nurse, nurse practitioner, etc. who by virtue of their education, credentials, and experience are permitted by law to evaluate and care for patients. The policy changes are underlined below.
3. All clubs are strongly encouraged to have a qualified emergency medical technician (CPR certified) or CPR certified qualified healthcare professional (QHP) in attendance at each event.
4. At group and all-breed conformation events, clubs are required to have a qualified emergency medical technician (CPR certified) or CPR certified qualified healthcare professional (QHP) in attendance from one hour prior to the start of judging until completion of all judging.
Disqualification and Reinstatement
The Disqualification and Reinstatement procedure was modified to establish that dogs disqualified more than once under the provisions of Chapter 11 Section 8-A of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows are ineligible for reinstatement. This applies to disqualifications by judge for attacking a person in the ring, by Event Committee for attacking and injuring a person or a dog, or administratively barred due to multiple excusals for aggression.
Three Opportunities for Conformation Championship Points on a Day at a Site
Board Policy was modified to allow for three opportunities for Championship points in a day, provided one of the opportunities is a specialty. An exception is that only two opportunities are allowed when two All-Breed shows are held on the same day. Structure was added regarding the size of entry per ring and the number of entries per judge to minimize the potential for scheduling issues. This was a provision that was put into place during the COVID pandemic and is being made permanent.
One Judge Required on Three Passes for Lower-Level Obedience, Agility, and Rally Titles
Board Policy was modified to require only one judge for three passes for lower-level titles in Obedience, Agility, and Rally. This was a provision that was put into place during the COVID pandemic and is being made permanent.
Removal of Date and Mileage Restrictions for Obedience and Rally Judges
Board Policy was modified to reduce the date and mileage restriction for judging assignments in Agility to 30 days/100 miles. This was a provision that was put into place during the COVID pandemic and is being made permanent.
Removal of the Restriction on the Number of Obedience or Rally Judging Assignments in a Cluster
Board Policy was modified to remove the restriction on the number of times an individual can judge a class at Obedience or Rally trials in a cluster. This was a provision that was put into place during the COVID pandemic and is being made permanent.
Reduction of Date and Mileage Restrictions for Agility Judges
Board Policy was modified to not have date and mileage restrictions for judging assignments in Scent Work. This was a provision that was put into place during the COVID pandemic and is being made permanent.

Qualifying Period for the 2023 AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS) Finals
The qualifying period for the 2023 NOHS Finals will be from September 21st 2022 to September 20th 2023. The NOHS Rankings can be found on our website, including the rankings for the 2022 NOHS Finals which has a qualifying period from September 22, 2021 through September 21, 2022.
Five Event Committee Members Must Be Individually Listed in the Premium List
As a reminder, AKC rules and regulations require that at least five (5) members of the Event Committee must be individually listed in the premium list. All members of the Event Committee must be from the event giving club and they must be in good standing with both the club and the AKC.
