Here are some more AKC communications that you’re likely to find of interest:

First, Chris Sweetwood has asked that we all consider donating to the AKC PAC in this election cycle. Not only does 100% of your contribution go to electing dog-friendly legislative candidates, if you donate $12 or more, you’ll get an AKC PAC mask. Click here to make your donation. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Select your club affiliation and check the box to proceed. Enter in your contact and other information. In the AKC-affiliated club box, please type “face mask donation”. And if you send them a picture of yourself wearing the mask with your dog, they’ll feature it on social media!

The Canine Health Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and is asking for $25 donation to help celebrate, here. Among the many research projects they support, they highlighted Canine Neurological Research in their most recent email. “The AKC Canine Health Foundation and our donors have provided funding for degenerative myelopathy research for over two decades so that veterinary and comparative medical researchers can contribute to improve our understanding of this complex disease. Read about the outcome of recent degenerative myelopathy research.

You can help celebrate the 18th AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day virtually this year, on Friday, September 17, “to educate first-time dog owners about the responsibilities of dog ownership and help current owners enhance their relationships with their pets.” It will include interactive quizzes, a TikTok Challenge, and a Facebook Live Q&A on training, canine health, therapy dogs and more.  Click here for more information.

A recent AKC email contained these three links, which look like fun!

The AKC Government Relations Department has announced the fourth annual Companion Animal Law Writing Contest, which is open to all students currently enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school. If offers a first-place prize of $2500. Click here for more information.

The AKC Government Relations Department addresses dog-related regulatory proposals from the U.S. federal government, all 50 states, and the District of Columbia.  AKC GR is currently tracking approximately 750 regulatory proposals, the majority of which concern land use/hunting regulations and those governing the practice of veterinary medicine. Their website is quite comprehensive, take a look!

In SCOA news, we hope you’ve all seen that we have finalized the dates for the 2020ne National Specialty in West Virginia. It will take place from May 22-28, 2021, and we hope to see you there! Keep watching our Facebook page and our website for information.
