AKC News Roundup

Kim Vanderbilt

This is a digest of the highlights, with links, of some recent AKC communications that will be of interest to Spinone owners.

First, there is an invitation to become a member of the Canine Health Foundation. The Spinone Club of America has become a member, in order to support the good work they do to support the health of our dogs. You, as individuals, can also join. Click here for more information: https://www.akcchf.org/how-to-help/membership/. Take a look at the Discoveries newsletter here, which tells you about some of their projects and gives information on upcoming webinars: https://www.akcchf.org/educational-resources/library/articles/AKC-CHF-Discoveries-Summer-2020-web.pdf.

Many of us want to get back out into the world and participate in the dog sports that we love. The AKC is working hard to develop experiences that allow all of us to participate in events even while we are waiting.

Some of you may have participated in the first AKC Virtual dog show or seen the results posted: https://www.akc.org/sports/conformation/akc-virtual-top-dog-challenge/. Without the show expenses, the AKC was able to donate a portion of the $25 dollar entry fees toward Take the Lead .

The AKC has put in place a Virtual Pilot Program for Rally Novice. See https://www.akc.org/sports/rally/rally-virtual-entry-pilot/ for details. It has also announced some temporary amendments to the titling requirements for Obedience, Rally, and Agility: https://link.akc.org/view/5b86d8ff2ddf9c5a2a406006cgkl4.15t/ce6eb5f1.

The AKC has made it possible for us to do a Virtual Water Test: https://www.akc.org/sports/pointing-breeds/virtual-water-test/. These have sometimes been hard to find. Most exciting, Veloce the Spinone, with his handler, a longstanding SCOA member, stars in the sample video! https://akc.tv/watch/23/5476/collection-video/veloce-water-test-videoerved=0.

The latest edition of AKC Communicates is available and worth a read! They highlight what’s new on AKC.tv, including coverage of the Mountain Laurel Cluster next week and their “Ask The Expert” indoor and outdoor training tips. You can also connect to the new AKC podcast “Down and Back: Stories from the American Kennel Clun Archives. Episode 2, “Uniquely Urban: Dogs Bred for Life in the City” has been released. For detail, see: https://link.akc.org/view/5b86d8ff2ddf9c5a2a406006cgq3j.8c5/4033bd52.

The AKC Government Relations Department tracks legislative and regulatory proposals at the local, state and federal level. It also reports on the legislation of interest from around the world: https://link.akc.org/view/5b86d8ff2ddf9c5a2a406006catgd.4el/2acc0838.

There is an ongoing fundraising campaign by the AKC PAC. Click here to learn more about their activities and make a donation: https://www.apps.akc.org/apps/pac/index.cfm.

We hope you enjoy the reading and donate if you can!

Stay well,

Kim Vanderbilt, Secretary
on behalf of the officers and board of the Spinone Club of America
