Judges Notes and Winners for the National Specialty 2022

Last Wednesday was kind of a historic day for me judging the Nationals of Spinone Italiano in Portland, Oregon. My first appointment in the US & one of THE assignments in the breed.

This outstanding male also won BOB at Westminister 2021 as I learned after the show as well as a handful of his relatives won classes or high prizes under me.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Rebecca Van Ess, Sue Acquistapace, Susan McGregor, Ted Wentink & the Spinone Club of America (SCOA) for their invitation. You ran a wonderful show! The whole week was filled with interesting seminars & stuff for all Spinoni at the terrific venues of Boulder Falls Inn! We could all learn from that… 

My winners pleased me to the max & sportsmanship was second to none! Thanks to all exhibitors/owners/handlers for accepting & appreciating my decisions the way you did! 

In- & outside of the ring I had Christine Cameron as my steward piloting me through. Thanks for your precious help & sacrificing your time next to me!

Last but not least I enjoyed my stay after the show was held in company with my biggest mentor in the breed Nadia Guerrini who took over her father´s Spinone Del Mucrone Kennels in 1967. Thank you, Nadia & Salvatore la Spada, for our friendship!

To put it in a nutshell: These were days to remember for the rest of my life❣️

BOB:

Impressive quality male in excellent coat. Very typical and sound throughout with good bone and substance. Well-balanced masculine long head with lovely head planes. Well-shaped eyes and lovely expression. Strong neck running into well-laid shoulders. Excellent topline, typical croup, and good tail set. Wonderful depth of brisket and broad chest, excellent forechest. Well angulated behind. Moves with good reach and drive keeping his super topline. Definitely an outstanding specimen of the breed.

BOS & BOW:

Lovely, feminine bitch showing the quality features of the breed we are looking for. Excellent format with lovely outlines, good bones, and substance. Sweet head and expression. Good neck and shoulders. Correct topline, croup, and tail set. Nice proportions of the chest, well angulated in front and rear. Lovely harsh coat. Covers the ground easily on the move with good power and nice carriage.

WINNERS DOG:

Well presented male of younger age. Nice type with typical head and expression. Good eyes and ears, correct neck and topline. Good substance of body and bones. Deep chest, correct coat. Moves well, beautifully keeping his topline.
