Letter from the President
Mike McLeland
A few years ago, at a Spinone field gathering there were lots of quail, pheasant and ducks. There were also a number of Spinone that had never been exposed to birds. One very goofy, large male that was nine years old was the star of the afternoon. He surprised his owners as the happy dog became ecstatic on the very first scent of the bird. It was as if a key had been turned and a joyous part of his being had been unlocked. He pointed, he flushed and swam after the duck the very first time he had seen one. It was a fantastic day. My point in recalling this story is that as we have wonderful hunt test grounds this year, I would encourage all to participate. The Mingo Sportsman’s Club Field Trial Grounds are host to NAVHDA’s premier event, the Invitational Test. In addition to the AKC hunt tests and NAVHDA test we will be offering an Intro to Positive Gun Dog Training seminar presented by Inga From. For more info please visit the SCOA website or contact the hunt test committee directly at [email protected].
As you can tell planning for the Annual Meeting is well underway. The National and Regional Specialties and the Top Twenty are all premier events in conformation. With Obedience, Junior Handling, Spinone Olympics, etc. there is something for everyone. The costume contest and parade of veterans are two of my favorites.
The dates are May 16-22 in Weirton, West Virginia and details are on SCOA’s website.
VOLUNTEERS are still needed! Please visit the website or contact our great show chair Bob Steele directly at [email protected]
See you there!!
