President's Day Letter

Ted Wentink

Dear SCOA Members,

Happy Presidents’ Day!  Days are getting longer and springtime is in the air.  I hope that you and your dogs are all doing well!  Our SCOA members have been hard at work, so here are some Club updates for you.

Oregon Trail bound?  The 2022 National Specialty is happening in Lebanon Oregon, May 16th - 22nd, and is open for registration.  Click here for the website and registration.  We’ll see you there!

HUNT TEST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  May 21st and 22nd are the SCOA AKC and NAVHDA hunt tests.  It’s a great way to spend a day, helping outdoors and watching dogs at work.  Contact Alan Bush at [email protected].  Help for the NAVHDA test on Sunday is especially needed.  We’ll teach you what to do.

Who will you nominate this year?  Nominations for the annual Club awards are in progress.  Submit nominations to [email protected]Nomination form and criteria here.  These nominations are for the Kemo Cup, Rufus Cup, Ty Cup, Award of Recognition, Cos Cup, Asti’s Compassion, and Volunteer of the Year.  The deadline to receive nominations is March 25th.

2023 National Specialty:  We’re seeking proposals for the 2023 National Specialty.  As the country gradually reopens and Covid restrictions ease, we’re seeking a planning team and location for our 2023 Nationals.  Please contact the SCOA Board with any questions regarding your proposals.  We’d love to get 2024 and 2025 into the works also!

We will be having a Board election this year.  We have received the additional nomination of Erica Cross for Club vice president.  Per SCOA Bylaws, as we have a contested election, ballots will be mailed to all members in good standing by March 15th.  To be valid, returned ballots must be postmarked by April 15th.  Please watch for more information on this.

Bylaws revisions are complete.  The original Bylaws were written decades ago, so we have made many overdue changes, which include provisions for the use of electronic communications and balloting.  These changes will not only modernize and enable to club to run more efficiently but also allow the club to adapt to any future, needed revisions.  Please read through these carefully.  I encourage you to vote affirmatively for this revision.

There you have it – some news of SCOA to look forward to this spring!  I hope to see you in Oregon in May.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of our Board members if we can help you in any way.

 Best regards,

Ted Wentink
