Northeast Spinone Club hosted 2nd SCOA Specialty at the Ladies Dog Club in Wrentham, MA
Northeast Spinone Club had a busy spring season with two hunt training sessions at the Corps of Engineers grounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, helping those who were preparing for Natural Ability testing with NAVHDA or just wanting to continue to work with their dogs on birds.
Hunt training continued with the very successful and annual “Spinone Only” held in Dresden, Maine. This fun and relaxed event was officiated by some of the best (with decades of experience with the Spinone) trainers in the Northeast. It is designed to help the handler understand the prey drive their dogs possess. It focused on each dog’s level of ability. For the veteran hunter you were encouraged to continue training at your current level and received some excellent advice. Educational stations were well attended, with health, safety, grooming, and show handling training, to name a few. We also had a potluck dinner and had fun discussing the day’s events.
In between, Northeast Spinone Club hosted its second SCOA Specialty at the Ladies Dog Club in Wrentham, MA. The weekend lineup included 5 shows in 3 days and was well attended. There were majors at all the show. Spinoni were the talk of the grounds with so many bystanders, stewards and judges expressing how excited they were to see such a nice entry of beautiful dogs.

We now get to breathe a bit for the summer but will continue with some relaxed training sessions in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. In September, the Spinoni come out in numbers to attend the local AKC 4-top Hunt Test weekend and we have several moving into the Sr. Hunt category. On October 1, Northeast Spinone Club is hosting another specialty for SCOA at the famous Morris & Essex dog show in NJ. This show only happens once every 5 years and we hope to see some of you then.
We will close out the year with an Italian Dog Hunt day to be scheduled in November at one of the local Hunt Clubs.
