Dog Aging Project at Colgate through August 2026
SCOA members have learned of an ongoing research project at Colgate’s biology lab studying why small dogs live longer than larger dogs. To do this, Colgate researches are trying to collect medically discarded tissue from procedures breeders are already doing (for example, tail docks, dewclaws, etc.). There is no compensation aside from the satisfaction of advancing canine knowledge and health.
Researchers are only allowed to collect tissue that is removed by a vet or vet tech due to animal care protocols at Colgate University. All you would need to do is shoot Ana Jimenez an email whenever you have a new litter whose tails are going to be docked/dewclaws removed and researchers will provide you with the materials to collect these tissues via FedEx. They are looking to collect samples from now until August 2026.
If you would be interested in participating in this, please email Ana Jimenez, Associate Professor in Physiology.
